Project Description
The Institute without Boundaries (IwB) was hosting the International Charrette at the School of Design in Toronto. The IwB students, faculty and staff have been researching the underlying systems and barriers that have led to the affordability crisis around the world, which provides the basis for this Charrette.

This year, we were partnering with the United Church, Regional Municipality of York, Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA), WoodGreen Community Services, 360°kids, and Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) to investigate challenges faced by local and regional communities to propose tangible and affordable solutions. Through these partnerships, we were able to conduct a co-creative investigation of affordable infrastructure ranging from physical, social, and technological, as well as their underlying governance structures, to propose designs that will positively contribute to the affordability ecosystem.

Bringing together hundreds of students from around the world, industry partners, community stakeholders and thought leaders, the international Charrette encourages multidisciplinary collaboration design action and fosters creativity.
